03 GIACOMETTI’S TROUSERS REVISITED
20.04.2023 to 27.05.2023.

SPACE IN BETWEEN and yuill | crowley Gallery are pleased to announce their upcoming collaboration to showcase Robert MacPherson’s late works, Giacometti’s trousers revisited.

The exhibition celebrates MacPherson’s impact and influence on the Australian art scene since the 1970s. As a conceptual painter with a unique approach to ready-made, mundane materials and a keen eye for the everyday, MacPherson inspired generations of artists, making him a celebrated figure in the Australian art community.

41 years ago Kerry Crowley established yuill | crowley Gallery to give contemporary artists from Australia and elsewhere a platform in Sydney where their work would receive due regard. Her commitment to providing context and visibility for contemporary art set the standard for showcasing unfamiliar and difficult work while maintaining the integrity of individual artists. Crowley has continued to support MacPherson’s legacy after his passing in 2021 and is thrilled to work with SPACE IN BETWEEN to present his works to a new audience. The exhibition promises to showcase MacPherson’s unique late style with painterly surfaces where, in the words of Ingrid Periz, “the paint is spatulated, troweled, swirled like raked sand in a Zen garden...Paint is pushed to the point of cracking.”

This collaboration marks a significant moment, bringing together two galleries committed to celebrating and preserving the legacy of Australian contemporary art.
